2019 Trip: North Manitou Island
June 23rd-29th, July 21st-27th, Age 12-14
We will depart on Sunday morning from our headquarters, Moose Hall, to Leland, where we will board the ferry for the one-hour transit to the larger and wilder of theManitous!
Once we arrive, participants will get a hefty backcountry confidence boost as we travel smart and light, covering ground, scouting cool secluded spots to make camp, and checking out the incredible variety of biomes North Manitou has to offer. Dunes and beaches? Check. Craterous, forested geologic features? Yep. Abandoned farms and meadows? You got it. Throw in an exhilarating ferry ride and you’ve got yourself a true Great Lakes adventure. Plus, our North Manitou trips are a day longer this year, so you’ll have even more time to explore or enjoy the beaches- whichever the group decides!
North Manitou trips also present the opportunity to give back to Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. We will have the option to help North Manitou Island Rangers to rehabilitate rustic campsites, survey wildlife on the island or restore the island school house.
