Isle Royale National Park, MI

Are you ready to backpack beautiful Isle Royale, the least visited National Park in the US? To reach this remote island we will take a 6 hour ferry ride from Copper Harbor, Michigan. Isle Royale is a place of striking, natural beauty set in the northern section of cold, clear Lake Superior. Campers will have the chance to explore the island's rugged wave-washed coastline and its internal wilderness, including inland lake, rivers, and high rocky hills. The park also has a very unique ecosystem which includes bald eagles, moose, and wolves. We will spend our time on the island hiking, camping, swimming, cooking for ourselves, and exploring the park's islands. Participants will hike along the coastal trails and within the interior trail systems of the park and will camp and cook in remote backcountry sites. Hiking will range from easy to difficult depending on terrain. The trip belongs to the whole group, so every camper will be part of the leadership and decision making of our adventure.
The trip begins at the Mackinaw City Welcome Center, south of the Mackinaw Bridge, where we will pack the and head for and spend the night in Copper Harbor. We'll then take the ferry to Isle Royale and hike to our first campsite where we will begin our 9-day journey across the park.
